UPDATE 1/2/22: We went again on New Years eve (it was free!!) and were greeted by the friendly deer this time!! so well worth it despite the cold.. just wrap up warm and get ready for an amazing walk
How could we not go after we found out that Magdalen College Addison’s Walk will be open on New Year’s Day-. It is free for all and no prebooking needed!!
We were really interested to see the deer up close, unfortunately, the meadow was flooded (and frozen in the middle), so I don’t blame the poor deer to prefer respite under the trees then say hello to us.
Despite that disappointment, we had a really lovely walk around. My son entertained himself with splashing stones in the puddles and running in the Magdelen college hall (practising echoing), while I enjoyed pretending to be an alumnus. There is something really special about walking in these corridors and then on those grounds, admiring the beautiful autumn/winter colour, great architecture and thinking of the many prominent people these halls have educated
