Oxford Botanic Garden, which sits right on the banks of the River Cherwell, a subsidiary to the Thames, is one of the most popular things to do in Oxford. It’s also the world’s oldest botanical garden, established in 1621, and was the first site of the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society). It’s steeped in history. The park is located just minutes from the city center, and there are many places to sit and eat a picnic. It’s one of those top days that your kids will talk about all the time.
Visit the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford
If you want to go and visit any of Oxford university’s museums, make it the Pitt Rivers museum. I visited last week for the first time and found it to be a wonderful way to learn about the history of objects, artifacts, and art from the past and present. The Pitt Rivers museum is an incredible collection of museums and galleries spread over Oxford University’s campus. If you’re lucky enough to be in Oxford this summer, be sure to go check it out. This is one of the best things to do in the city. It certainly was for us.
See Longhorn Cows at The Meadow, Christ Church
Kids do love wildlife, so catching a glimpse of these rare English longhorn cows should be a top priority. The cows congregate at the meadow of Christ Church college and it’s one of only a handful of places you can see this type of cattle. The best time to go is in the morning when the cows are licking the dew from the meadow.
