Bunkers hill trails never disappoints and remain one of our favourite places. How can it not be!! It is just the right sized trail for little ones, costs only 2£ (which goes to charity) and not only do kids get certificate and small gift at the end, hot drinks (including tea, coffee and hot chocolate) are free for the family- yes, you heard that right!! FREE..
Andrew & Liz (the owners of the nursery) tragically lost their son Jack in 2017 after a short-period of mental illness at the age of 23. So they alway come together to try to raise funds for two wonderful charities- Mind & Restore.
The trail is simple. You have to find 10 pumpkins hidden around the nursery, each with a picture and letter attached to it, to decode the mystery word and get your treat. Vote for your favourite of the Ugly Mug Pumpkin Parade & Guess the weight of Big Bertha (for a chance to win them!). In addition, you can pick your own pumpkin and carry them in the beautiful purple wheelbarrow (along with your lil pumpkin if they feel like it). They have a nice collection of reasonably priced plants to in case your inner gardener wants more.
New for 2022- There are pumpkin decorations in the meadow behind the nursery, where you can take beautiful autumnal photos and there is a stone maze on the ground. The old Walter nature trail is still on with boards around the meadow which has lots of interesting facts written on them (Ladybugs smell with their feet and antennae!!)
The honest bottle is gone; as people do not carry cash any more. They have an honesty card machine in place now. You can use it to purchase the yummy cakes in the cafe (which remains unmanned)
Verdict: Simple, cheap, interesting fun in a not too long trail– perfect for toddlers and younger children.
Bonus: They are quite close to the airfield, so there are lots and lots of low flying planes above the nursery (we saw atleast around 30 during the time we were there). So it is a lovely place for plane spotting here
