Adderbury Lakes Nature Reserve near Banbury has a waterfall!!!! YES you heard it right. There is a little waterfall under the bridge. The lake is small and the entire circle will not take long (perfect for little legs) but the entire ambience is so peaceful and quiet, you may just want to sit on one of the many benches scattered around and admire the view.
As you turn from Oxford road, on to Lake walk, go past the Red Lion and Lake house to reach the entrance of the reserve. There are three parking spaces here. It was not too busy, so we had no issues but if you are unable to find a space, please park considerately as it is a residential area, the roads are very narrow and you may cause obstruction very easily.
The initial part of the walk is on a slight decline and there are daffodils lining the walk. You will also come across an ice house as you go down, which is always a delight to find. Keep going until you reach the lake. Turn right from here, as there is a dead end on the left side, and just follow the track.
There are actually two lakes, divided over by a bridge. Under the bridge is the waterfall which you can view from the lower lake. There are warning signs at the site about deep water and treacherous mud, so please be careful if your little ones get too close to the edge. There were a lot of fading away snowdrops on the floor by the second lake. I am going to come back here early season next time to enjoy them. You can also see a nice treehouse in the private property across the lake, gladly, Ay was too busy playing on the circle of tree stumps to notice it. I also hear you can sometimes spot deer but that was not the case today.
It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the waterfall was flowing, birds were chirping and soft wind was against the cheeks.. What else would one want?
