After our GoApe Nets adventure (POST HERE), we went around to explore the Black park country park in Slough, which is brilliant. You can so easily make this a full fun day out from Oxfordshire on its own as well.
Just next to the car park is a cafe and toilets, so I would advise you use them here before venturing off. There is also a water fountain for refilling your water bottles, which I loved. We then started off our walk around the lake and I must say it is one of the most cleanest lakes I have come across. The water is crystal clean and while swimming/diving is not allowed, we did soak our feet in and threw pebbles/sticks in. Variety of water fowl was paddling in it or resting on the edges. The woods have amazing trees, perfect for climbing and playing hide and seek. We had a LOT of fun, just enjoying our walk, hearing the birds tweeting, watching squirrels run around, and moorhens quacking.
We then came to the Emma Sallis adventure playground, which is a huge play area with lots of wooden equipment. It is also shaded under the trees, giving it not only a rustic feel, but it will be great under sun or even rain. There are a couple of climbing frames, one shaped like a castle and the other one had chains for climbing instead of ropes, which was unusual but fun nonetheless. A new climbing frame has just recently installed which caters for slightly older children but fully do-able by 4-5 years olds. In addition, there are rockers, many swings, slides, sea saw, a toddler wooden train for imaginative play, climbing pyramid (with many children on it) and loads more. There is a cafe near by and an icecream truck was standing just outside the play area.
It is a long walk if you do the entire perimeter of the lake. If you want to make it shorter, you can head straight from the car park in the direction of the adventure playground (to your right) rather than turning to your left. I have attached the MAP HERE
Black Park has a rich filming history and is often used as a location for both big and small productions. There are over 10 miles of well surfaced trackways suitable for buggies , cycles and wheelchairs around the park, though some areas are “family friendly” where cycling is not allowed. There is also a large meadow with lots of picnic benches and some exercising equipment.
