BRILL is brilliant!
If you want to do something fun, peaceful and different around oxford, then this is your place. It is not just about the Brill Windmill, which is a Grade II* listed post mill with 17th century origins, the whole setting of the village on top of the little on the edge of Buckinghamshire/Oxfordshire border is just WOW. The views are breathtaking as you can see miles and miles ahead of you.
Entry is at level of the windmill, so you don’t have to climb hills if you don’t want to but if you have children, then they will love running up and down the dozens of mini-hills, of different sizes, or in our case, want to race (dangerous but he loves it!!)..
It is VERY windy up here. Make sure you take a kite with you or you will be full of envy for the plenty kite flyers (like me🤣). End the day with a yummy lunch in the pub just opposite the windmill.
The place is not just for kids though.. if you prefer not to, then just stay on ground level, sit and gaze on this beauty. I also saw couples enjoying a romantic picnic (and again felt envious, not sure when was the last time I did that but good for them). Get here for sunset or sunrise, bring a picnic blanket and thank me later.. I am sure it will be a sight to behold.
Owned by Brill Parish Council and managed by The Brill Society, the windmill is usually open to the public Sunday afternoons, Easter to September but Brill Common is still open for walks and kite flying – as are the village pubs for warming drinks and open fires.
