I have mixed feelings about this one. Don’t get me wrong, it has a lot to offer and it is a lovely place, we just did it a bit wrong
We started off with
🏝Japanese themed Water garden with a lake (lots of koi Carp), accessible via paving stones & surrounded by lots of open spaces and picnic benches. Then, we went to
🎠The storybook playden-Old Brown from ‘The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin’ sits at the entrance. There are Carved wooden models of favourite storybook characters like Peter Pan, Captain Hook and the ever-hungry crocodile, ‘Charlotte’s Web’-inspired climbing net, ‘Wind in the Willows’ style boat, turreted house with slide, based on the ‘Magic Tree House’ stories, Giant mini-beasts and stepping stone trail. I had heard so much about this play area, and despite the novelty of the apparatus, I felt it was a bit underwhelming for the intermediate age group with not much to do (sorry!)
🗺 From here on, you should have a clear plan of what you want to do. if you want to go to the woodlands, then head straight there. Don’t go via the Cliveden house like we did as we got lost (great map reading aye!!), Somehow managed to end up by the river & then had to climb up millions of steps. Add to that a hot sunny day and a lil one, and imagine the rest😰
We did finally reach the woodlands play trail, off Green Drive, which is good for older children as they can try building, balancing and climbing but it’s no adventure land and not worth the effort for a 4yr old, if I am completely honest (but then maybe we were tired).
🗺 alternative route could be head to the house (exclusive hotel now where Meghan Markle stayed before her wedding), along the parterre, then down to the river (172 steps!!) to enjoy the peace and tranquillity +_ boating along the Thames-side paths
🗺 or just park in the woodland car park and do the walks around the estate
Our mistake was doing it all in one go (by mistake!) and getting lost!! The map for the entire estate is HERE, so please plan ahead.
Great day nonetheless.. watch our adventure on video HERE
