Garth Park in Bicester has a lot of potential, but as the central and biggest park of Bicester, it is a bit disappointing. Despite that, it remains the central hub for locals and we do meet our friends with kids here, but that still does not improve my feelings for this place
The climbing frame is so tricky- god knows why it was designed the way it is! you can climb on it ok, but then there is a log almost my waist height, on which Ay almost certainly hit his head when he attempted to cross it, before (if) he was able to cross over to the wobbly bridge. When he grew taller, the only way he could have done it by either climbing over it or under it, both dangerous as there is a wobbly bridge on the other side and no protection on the floor. He often chickened out (and I probably would have not let him do it myself), which was the main reason I did not like this park! He would do a bit of climbing on the spider web but that’s about it.
The slide on the main climbing frame is always muddy at the landing (see my picture as proof) and the roundabout is so hard to spin, it needs oiling.
Who doesn’t love crawling through tunnels under the mounds? The trouble here is, despite being on artificial turf, they often are really muddy inside (don’t know how rain water gets in there, but it does).
I have added it in parks with a splash area but it is not really a splash pool. It has sprinklers for water which trickles down the little gullies (between rocks). Mind you, you have to sit on it and press/pump to release water, so very little ones will need help, but more often than not, they are not working. When they do, you don’t think it will, but children do get wet, so have change of clothes ready on the day you find them functioning.
There is a fair bit of sensory play for toddlers and other stuff like stand up sea saw, rockers, slide, swings and the zipwire is pretty fast. There is a skate park on the outside and a little woodland trail towards and around the council building.
