Visiting a sunflower field has now become an annual family tradition and for the last two years, it has been to the Patch MK. so I could hardly refuse when we were “invited” this year (though I must say we have always paid in the past and would have done so if not for the invitation).
The patch MK is not JUST about the sunflowers this year though. I know a few of you moaned about it being an expensive day out last year, so I am glad they listened to all the feedback. I love a company who show they care!! The price has increased by a pound when compared to last year but it is worth it in my opinion, as this year, they have expanded to offer the sunflowers and wildflowers alongside 2 mazes set within 8 acres of corn and flowers as well as expanded their play offerings. It truly is a full family day out with a lot included in the price of the ticket.
There are two corn mazes this year. The first one is the Jubilee maze and the second one is the lost dinosaur maze, which has a good collection of 12-foot-high, eleven, dinosaurs hidden in it. They also provide an activity card and stickers for the maze from the reception (included in the price of the ticket). The wildflowers and Zinnias are now fading away and desperate for rain I think but Ay was not bothered and loved finding ladybirds in there.
The sunflowers are amazing as ever. They have doubled the size and varieties of our sunflowers. The Instafarm opportunities are as incredible as last year! If just the fields are not enough for your perfect photo, then there is the giant MK patch logo, 8ft heart and beautiful butterfly wings.
There is the hay bale mountain to climb and another hay bale maze which Ay loved jumping and running around in and on top of. You have the tractor and combined harvester to sit in and you can also ride the tractor barrel train (extra price). The slide trailer is out again, but they have also added a covered giant sandpit (with sand toys), duck racing (which we loved!!) and mini Golf (all included in the ticket).
I was slightly disappointed by what I though was a “climbing wall” as I didn’t think it was possible to climb all the way to the top unless you had very long legs. When I posted the review, they have got back to me to clarify that it is actually a “traversing wall”. The wall has been designed to traverse across and not up, so children are unable to reach a height and so alleviate the risk of injury through falls. See, you learn every day, so, totally my mistake. The foot grips have been measured and positioned to allow children aged 6yrs and up, to traverse across and I can vouch that we were able to move across.
We spent about 3 hours here and would have done more if it weren’t for the very hot weather today. If you are going during the heatwave, please be aware that the Patch is set in an open field and therefore shade – especially when completing activities like the maze and viewing the sunflowers is very limited. Please bring hats and or umbrellas to help keep you cool. In the hub, there are some shaded areas and near the sand pit, but thats about it. They are in the process of doubling the size of our marquee to offer more shade, which is great. Also, bring some water with you. The Patch – being a temporary event – is run from a temporary water supply which is not accredited by environment health to be able to offer bottle refills. Water is available to buy though
