Blackbird Leys Park is actually a pretty good one. It has three play areas within the 9-hectare ‘green haven’ in the middle of Blackbird Leys estate, next to Leys Pools and Leisure Centre.
The first one is for toddlers, which is enclosed in a fence and has a climbing frame with vertical slide encircled by roundabout road markings giving it a pretty look. There is also a sandpit, climbing mound, swing (including accessible swing) rockers, springers and a sit in roundabout.
The other play area is for slightly bigger/ intermediate age group kids. It has a bigger climbing frame with spiral slide, climbing wall, cargo net, metallic ring tunnel, wobbly bridge and rope/normal ladder. There is a separate mound here for climbing with two slides side by side for racing. Then you also have the balancing beam and logs
The third play area merits praise on its own. There is a revolving swing structure; I don’t know what its called but I will try to explain it here. There are basically five different structures (chair style swing, zipwire seat, hanging/monkey bar and a rope to hang off) revolve around. One person has to push it which unfortunately was me on this occasion, but a group of teenagers and children with mixed age groups can really have a blast on this one. On the side are two zipwires running side by side to each other. Two can race down to see who wins. Then there is also the stand-up spiral/round about, Monkey bars, balancing beams , witches hat and Revolving tyre for kids.
The park is surrounded by huge fields with tarmac paths, which can be used for cycling. There are many picnic benches dotted around along with fitness equipment
All in all, a fantastic park, suitable for wide age range. The only down side is there was a lot of littering and dog poo. I just wish people are more considerate
