I have signed up Ay to the Pretty Muddy® Kids race for life. Why? You may ask. My sister has recently conquered cancer and we wanted to celebrate it by fundraising for Cancer Research UK. The ad for Race for Life kept pooping up on my feed, and in one sleepy, tired moment late at night, I signed us up, as it said, children over 1.2m tall and aged between 5-12 can participate. Great.. Deed done!.
It was not until the next morning when I actually looked at the terms and conditions and the realisation dawned on me. The course is approximately 5k ( just over 3 miles)… whaaaaaaaat? We love our walks and runs, but we have never done 5k before. Will Ay be able to hold up. Probably yes, but will I?? hmm unlikely!
It was a moment of panic I must admit, and I called the customer service to cancel. I heard one of the kindest and calmest voices I have ever spoken to. He reassured me it is all fun, and we won’t even feel the “5k”, as the course is regularly intercepted by interesting obstacles. You can run, walk or jog, going at your own pace, and there is no pressure to finish in a certain time. You don’t have to go through the mud or obstacles if you don’t want to and Adults accompanying children will run alongside the course, but will not be allowed to take part on the obstacles. If they come across a challenge they can’t tackle on their own, adults can help them move on to the next one.
Ok..I felt a bit better and decided to get on with it.
Is it too adventurous of me? Will I regret it? Well, you will have to wait and see until we are done. I will update the Blog with honest details later (and tips if any!)
Please cheer Ay on and help us with our fund raising by donating on the link below.
Did you know that 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime? Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work.
You can also sign in if you want. All you need to do is find an event and fundraise! We are taking part in the Kenilworth one on 17th June 2023 (as it had the latest starting time hahaha). You can take part as an individual or in a group and have fun raising money for life-saving research.
I must warn you this is not for the squeamish or those who don’t like getting dirty. You are guaranteed to get muddy!! You will crawl through giant inflatable muddy pits and tunnels. You may have to scramble on your belly or Wiggle and weave your way through our different types of spider’s web. You will also be expected to Bound, bounce and crawl your way over inflatable pink tubes or dodge the moving inflatable balls as you run the gauntlet to get through to the other side.
The finale! The mud slide is a giant inflatable slide leading into the final mud pool – it’s the highlight of the course, so even if had skipped the earlier obstacles, make sure you can tackle this one!
