I wished I had a better camera to capture the beautiful aerial acrobatics by the birds but alas…!!!
Watch the not so great quality videos HERE which gives you a flavour of RSPB Otmoor Reserve nonetheless
If you are into birdwatching, then this is your place to be.. if your little one wants puddle jumping or pond wading, then think no more, but be prepared for proper countryside experience. Wellies and waterproofs (and your binoculars) are a MUST. Parking was almost full/spaces a bit tight and the single track road was a bit of a struggle, having to reverse back a few times to give other car ways. May be today was an exceptionally busy day (??), but be mentally prepared for it.
Otmoor is a bird sanctuary and nature reserve between Beckley and Oddington, within the wider area of Otmoor, in Oxfordshire. It is a haven for wildlife in the heart of Oxfordshire. The visitor trail leads you alongside an expansive floodplain grazing marsh, home to wading birds and wildfowl year-round. Hedgerows, bustling with warblers and songbirds, and the rustling reedbed adds to the immersive experience of being on the “moor”
It has a six-mile circular walk, which we did not embark on due to the time of the day (and having gotten lost trying to find the place) but the little that we did do, was gorgeous, offering plenty of wildlife, aerial acrobatics and spectacular views over the “magical expanse of wet meadows and reedbeds”.
We went to Beckley first and from there to the main car park. I will try entering via “Noke” the next time as (having just done a bit of research), it seems that part of the part of the walk is one of the most rewarding, with two hides overlooking the reedbeds and the RSPB’s legendary lizard lounge – a collection of rocks, stones and logs that provides a brilliant basking spot for the reserve’s common lizards. The trail is HERE
