Stratford butterfly farm, Warwickshire is the UK’s largest tropical butterfly paradise. The place is not huge, but is so mesmerising that you keep on going round and round, with huge/small, colourful, beautiful butterflies fluttering around or even landing on you. Initially Ay was very disappointed that they were not sitting on him, but all of a sudden one came, and he just stood still there, looking at the beautiful thing (watch the video HERE).

I have never seen him like this- fascinated, happy, excited, yet sitting so still to not let the butterfly fly away. The moment will be etched on my memory forever. He then became confident, walking around with his hand out, inviting them to come to him, and he actually got a few more..he said to me at the end “I am so lucky, this is the best day ever!!” Indeed!!
What a magical moment 🦋 I am still in awe!!!
No wonder they say “Happiness is like a butterfly: the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder”
Right..enough of the sentimental bit.. so what else have we got
🦋 It can be an educational outing too – we got the butterfly leaflet from reception (1£) and tried to find out which ones we saw. We looked at the chart of the lifecycle and also caterpillars/pupae on display and discussed metamorphosis
🦋 We learnt how fragile butterflies are and why they kept on announcing to not touch/catch them (there were a few lying on the floor crushed/dead, which made us very sad)
🦋 The pond and little waterfall is stunning with the largest Koi carp I have ever seen
🦋 There is a minibeast area with reptiles and insects. Now I am not too fond of these but there were some interesting things like giant locusts, stick insect, Amazon milk frog, python, leaf cutter ants etc
🦋 The shop is one of the most reasonable I have come across, with nice books for children. We also got a tub of insects for just 3.99£
There’s a little cloakroom at reception as you enter. I didn’t realise how important it will turn out to be until we went inside the farm. It is really hot and humid (tropics remember😅), so you do feel stuffy in some parts (TOP TIP:leave your coats here and thank me later)
We spent the rest of the day on the riverside (review HERE)
VERDICT: one of our most memorable magical days- highly recommended
