After the lovely time at the STRATFORD BUTTERFLY FARM (please see POST HERE), we went to explore the town of Stratford upon Avon, the recreation ground, play park and riverside walk, to make a full day out of it.
Boating came first- We hired the motor boats (30£for 30 min, with 20£ Refundable deposit) and enjoyed boating with the swans on the river. It was funny how you think you are about to bump into one and they suddenly change direction. There are many other options like rowing, punting etc, with different charges.. see website HERE
We also saw the Stratford-upon-Avon chain ferry cross infront of us. It is a manually operated pedestrian chain ferry across the River Avon linking Waterside, roughly halfway between the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Holy Trinity Church, with the water meadows on the opposite side of the river. If I knew about it beforehand, I would have definitely gone for the experience, but this this now on my list for next time.
You can also take a scenic ferry trip across the River Avon to the Waterside gardens by the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and recreation grounds.
We then had a lunch at one of the Restarants (it would have been great to have a picnic, as the weather was amazing, but, only if I was more organised!!). Then, we had a spin in the Ferris wheel (called Stratford Big Wheel) for 6£pp, and had the most spectacular views far reaching over the Shakespearean town and surroundings
We followed this by a lovely stroll down the river, the swans and ducks waiting to be fed, alas we didn’t have anything with us 🙁 . We walked until we came across the fairground rides and a bouncy castle. A bit of time there and then onto the playpark
The play area is fully fenced and has very nice colours, which always enhances the visual appearance but the park itself is pretty nice too.it was quite busy so I don’t have decent pictures without catching someone in it. you will have to do with the long distance ones. It has a lovely sandpit, with a climbing frame/equipment in the middle (don’t forget your sand play stuff!!). It kept Ay busy, until I had to drag him out as parking was running out
There is another climbing frame shaped like a pirate ship, rockers, spinning bucket, swings (for all ages), slide, sensory equipment, little house for more imaginative play and zipwire as well.
Our parking time was running out, so we dashed back but we had a brilliant day out!! There are some venues we still need to do in this region, so watch this space for more
