You may have seen the tower and the ardley incinerator on your drive on M40 but I had no idea you could actually go close to it until I saw a post about it.
Trow pool and water tower walk, Bicester is another hidden gem of a walk. There is a small sign post as you come from the B road. If you park there, cross the gates, you can walk up to the tower itself (about 300-400 yards).. it is very close to M40 and very noisy, so when I started off, I thought it will be waste of an expedition, but as soon as you go to the tower, those feelings went away.
The Trow Pool water tower was built in 1909 for the owner of Bucknell Manor and was in full service for the manor and the village of Bucknell until mains water reached the area in the 1950s. It’s an impressive structure to walk around. The boys tried to climb it (couldn’t ofcourse), then picked up sticks (loads n loads of all kinds around), did sword fights and pretended to be knights.
From there on, there’s a clear pathway that leads down to Trow Pool itself, which was really pretty. We had a great time crossing the stream to and fro, enjoying the small waterfall, watch the ducks across the pool, walked across the bridge and threw almost everything they could get their hands on in it. It’s up to you then which path you take for your walk. You can make it as short or as long as you want ( you can get really close to the incinerator)
TIP: Wellies/waterproofs a must. We loved jumping in the muddy puddles (have a look HERE)

🦽Buggy accessible in parts but terrain is bumpy and muddy. My friend had her pram with her, as we got closer to the pool, she just left it there and we walked across. There was no one in sight and the pram was still there when we got back 😉
